The EFE Numbering System
The EFE model codes consists of a 5 digit numerical code, the first three numbers (101-198, 200-811, 980/1 & 993) indicate the particular road or rail vehicle tooling used, or a combination of individual parts used to produce a specific variation. (see main listing below).
The next two digits are the issue number of that particular model, these may then be followed by a letter (A, B, C etc) indicating a variation of the livery applied or a later rework of the originally issued model, commonly found on commissioned items.

Some model series numbers are reserved for internal ordering proposes, these mainly relate to generic lorry or bus trailers.
Various series numbers were also reserved for specfic model variations that to date haven't been produced or in some cases such as the Leyland National MK2 may never have existed.
There are a number of gaps in the series codes, some which may be reserved for future new & updated toolings or proposed toolings that subsqently did not make it to the production stage.

Suffix Letters
The following were added to a models normal series & issue 5 digit code.
The DL suffix was used by EFE to indicate a Deluxe Series model, these were usually models with registration marks, or other re-works, this series gradually faded out following the application of registration marks becoming standard on all releases.
The lorry range also used suffix letters BS & GY to indicate Brewery Series & Grocery Series models, these models were issued in special branded packaging.

Other Numbering Series
These code numbers were reserved for either non 1:76 scale models, gift sets or other themed model series.

100 White Star Ocean Liners Small scale Titanic, Britanic & Olympic White Star ocean liner models.
199 & 999 Gift Sets, early sets used 199, this later chnaged to 999 as the model range expanded.
800-811 London Underground Tube Trains non-motorised & motorised
992 & 997 were allocated for use with the War Time Bus Series (992) & Victoria Coach Station Series (997), these series contain a varied selection of different models and were also issued in special branded packing.
996 Gilbow Railway Series Various track/road side accessories & railway related road vehciles.
994, 995 & AT100 were used for third party manufactured imported Hong Kong bus models & Melbourne W6 Trams, these were offered to members of the EFE Subscribers' club.
980 & 991 1/24th Scale MCW Metrobus MK1 & Daimler Fleetline DMS models
993 The 1/8th scale tinplate Miller Racing Cars

Bachmann Era Changes
Gilbow Holdings allocated an E prefix to the series numbers internally and this wasn't normally shown on the box labels.
Bachmann Europe acquired the range in 2016 and started applying the 'E' prefix to the labels of new releases from 2018 onwards.

The use of suffix A, B etc letters continued where variations exist of the same basic livery, but these are now only used for standard issue models.
Commissioned models are now treated differently and have a "Z" suffix, should any variations exist, these are allocated the next letter going in reverse order, ie Y, X etc.

With Bachmann's introduction of the EFE Rail range of locomotives, carriages & wagons, a new series of codes in the E820-E875 range were introduced.
These are allocated by model genre & scale, for example N scale steam locomotives, or OO scale wagons, various different rolling stock types are inter-mixed as such in each genre range, sometimes in a fairly random order.

Model Total Figures
The number of issues for each model is based on code 1 & 2 releases only & includes all the models released or announced up to the 11th October 2025.
