12601DL McNicholas Dropside	THE REAL VEHICLE   The Atkinson name can be traced back to 1908 when the company first produced steam lorries, in 1933 the company became Atkinson Lorries Limited. During 1970 Seddon Diesel Vehicles took control of Atkinson's and this eventually lead to the introduction of the Seddon Atkinson name which continues to be used to this day. The firm was taken over by International Harvester of America in 1974. The knight cab was introduced in the 1950s and was available on 2, 3 and 4 axle rigid chassis' and also as 2 and 3 axle articulated tractor units. The cabs were produced with both single & twin headlmps. The knight's helmet emblem which appears on the radiator was depicted in different colours to denote the type of chassis used. - 'Silver Knight' was used for articulated tractor units. 'Black Knight' was popular for tanker and freighter versions, while the 'Gold Knight' was usually used for short wheelbase tipper and cement mixers. THE EFE MODEL   The first Atkinson truck entered the range in mid 1991 with the release of the T.S.L. car transporter 13001. As can be seen below several of the possible body and axle combination have yet to be issued, while some versions have only seen one of two issues. Apart from the oval and elliptical tankers all the bodies are the same as those used on the AEC Mammoth Major trucks The Atkinson was however the first truck model to be available as a tractor unit, and this has been coupled to four trailer types - car transporter, flatbed, boxvan & tanker. EFE's original model of the cab depicted the version with single headlamps, however in 2015 a tooling variation was produced adding a twin headlamp version of the cab. Please note that the release months shown on some of the model pages, are based on those printed on EFE release sheets, the actual release month may have been later in some cases.
