THE REAL SPORTS CARS
Triumph Roadster 20TR
This was one of Triumphs first post war models. The three seater had a top seed of 85 mph This car was nearly 14 feet long and 5 feet 5 inches wide. The boot contained two dickie seats for casual use.
Austin Healey Sprite
The Sprite was a Healey Motor Company design produced by Austin Motors from 1958 until 1961. The 2 seater was fitted with a 948 cc engine which could propel the little car to 82 mph. The cars protruding headlamps lead to the model be nick-named the 'frog-eyed Sprite'.
Triumph Vitesse MK II Convertible
The Triumph Vitesse appeared shortly after the company was taken over by Leyland Motors in 1967. The Vitesse was based on the Herald and had twin headlights which set it apart externally from its cousin. The 1600 cc six cylinder engine under the bonnet produced a top speed of 87 mph.
M.G.B. Roadster
The M.G.B. was launched in 1962, as a successor to the M.G.A. and was originally built only as a open sports car. Its 1800 cc engine produced a top speed of 103 mph.
THE EFE MODELS
All four sports cars were added to the range in early 1991.
The first four versions of each of the sports cars were issued in pairs, the two Triumphs forming one set, while the M.G.B. and Austin Healey Sprite formed the other. The first four releases all occurred in 1991 or 1992.
The Gilbow Railway Collection series has however seen three more sets produced since 1999, each of which contained all four sports cars.
The last two releases have also been enhanced by the addition of registration marks, chrome beading and two tone body colours.
Although other car models were planned in the early 1990s, at present there doesn't seem to be any desire on EFEs part to add further models to the range.
PLEASE NOTE : There seems to be some confusion regarding the catalogue numbers allocated to the MGB and Austin Healey, several publications have shown these transposed. The correct allocation confirmed by the box labels and the EFE Master List CD are as shown below.
