EFE at Cobham's Last Open Day |
EFE attended the "Goodbye to Redhill Road" event at the Cobham Bus Museum today, the weather started off rather damp but the rain eased off during the afternoon meaning I didn't get quite as soaked as I did at Showbus! The special Green Line RMC was on sale from the museum's shop and when I left there was still stock. A third party modified code 3 model based on the Museums earlier 2008 STD model 33601B was also available from the shop. This was available in three different versions with destinations for either route 13, 83A or 183. All three versions had sold out by midday however and it appears that all three were only produced in very small numbers. Single deck RM1368 the subject of a future EFE model made a rare appearance at the Cobham event. Turning to EFE, both Frank & Brenda Joyce were present and attracting a good audience to their display of forthcoming models. Included among the 25 or so models were fourteen new pre-production samples, comprising twelve standard release models and two subscriber's Christmas specials. Please note the details shown below are taken from the sample models and may be subject to change. 16130 Burnley Colne & Nelson - Leyland PD2 Highbridge Fleet number: 56 - Registration: ACW 622 - Route: Harle Syke 16226 Western National NBC - Bristol MW Coach Fleet number: 2906 - Registration: 621 DDV - Route: 310 Lynton 16532 City of Manchester - MCW Leyland Atlantean (apologies for the rather fuzzy front shot) Fleet number: 3626 - Registration: UNB 626 - Route: 40 Albert Sq 20450 Eastern Counties - Bristol VRT Series III Fleet number: 262 - Registration: RAH262W - Route: 726 Hemsby Beach 25306 East Yorkshire - AEC Regal Duple Half Cab Coach Fleet number: 503 - Registration: HWJ 990 - Route will be: Hull 26409 Lytham St Annes - Daimler Utility Fleet number: 23 - Registration: FTD 618 - Route: 11 Blackpool Talbot Rd Bus Station 31505 Platinum East London - AEC RM Routemaster Fleet number: RM1933 - Registration: ALD933B - Route: 15 Trafalgar Square 34906 Western National - Leyland Olympian Coach Fleet number: 1802 - Registration: A752VAF - Route: 83 Tavistock 27315 Wilts & Dorset - Leyland Titan TD1 Enclosed Staircase Fleet number: none - Registration: MW 8753 - Route: Weymouth 29625 Soveriegn (London) - Leyland Olympian Bus Fleet number: L308 - Registration: G308UYK - Route: 13 Golders Green Stn 35205 Devon General - Long 6 Bay BET Bus Production model will carry Fleet number: 9 - Registration: 9 RDV - Route: 9 Sidmouth 37401 Flowers Keg Bitter (Monkton Motors, Uxbridge) - Atkinson Articulated Tanker Lorry Fleet number: 118 - Registration: 6122 ME 30512 Tillingbourne - Guy GS Single Deck Bus (this is a slightly revised version of the model displayed at Showbus & has improved radiator detailing) The two models that will be offered to the EFE Subcription Service members in the next newsletter were also on display, these will be the Christmas specials this year but will be available earlier than is usual to beat the VAT increase in January. Buses Magazine Model Supplement |
The November issue of Buses contains a 16 page Diecast & Model Bus supplement, one of the articles takes a look at Exclusive First Editions and reveals some of their plans for 2011. The single deck Routemaster model of RM1368 shown at Showbus will have just one release and this is due to appear in the spring of next year. Also due next spring is the multi bay version of the Alexander Y type which will be followed a little later by a new Bristol RELH/RELL style grille for the Y type. The flat screen Bristol VR will be the next new casting and this is expected around August. The Alexander D type double deck Atlantean & Fleetline announced at the Showbus 2009 may appear in late in 2011. In the longer term EFE are still hoping to produce the Optare Olympus which I know a lot of collectors have been looking forward to. EFE are currently waiting for design details of the recently announced integral version to be finalised before committing this casting for production. Another item which has been put on ice for the foreseeable future is the 1:24 scale RF. The current economic climate has seen the market for these expensive large scale models shrink considerably, sales of EFE's 1:24 DMS Fleetline & MCW Metrobus have not encouraged them to go ahead with the RF. Finally I've been asked if Buses Magazine have announced any new EFE commissions to join the previous five models. New models are usually announced at Showbus but there was no sign of any samples or publicity on the Ian Allan stand at this year's event and to date nothing has been announced in the magazine either. |
