Model Lists Model Errors & Variations A list compiled by Tony Price & Kevin Ellis |
This list was originally started by Tony Price and is now maintained by Kevin Ellis, it's aim is to record some of the rare errors that sometimes make their way through the quality control process and end up on the final production versions of the models. It also lists some of the known variations that have occurred during the production of certain models which have not been recorded or perhaps noticed by their manufacturers. Look at it as a bit of fun where you can check whether you even spotted the error on your own model! Please be aware that this page it not intended to record every compromise that model manufacturers make, sometimes the existing tooling available will not be a perfect match for the particular vehicle being modelled. In these cases manufacturers will use a certain degree of artist license to produce the closest match possible using the resources available. This page isn't intended to be a criticism of any of the model manufacturers, they are only human and we all make mistakes from time to time. Many of the errors below are tiny and they rarely affect the models appearance unduly. A special thank you goes to everyone who sent error reports & in particular to Frank Houlden for reporting many of the errors and supplying the close up photographs of them. Latest Entries, variations, errors, production errors, perceived errors, numbering anomalies, general errors and Unexplained Models This latest update includes a number of new entries and around 50 new photographs showing some of the previously listed errors. A new photo viewer has also been added which allows you to browse through the 300 plus photographs. From now on the latest entries will be shown at the top of the list for a period before being moved into the main sections. The newest entries are shown in red. while other recent entries are shown in green. Cardiff Corporation/AEC Q Double Decker | 2011/01 | Many, if not all of these models have the upper deck seating incorrectly installed resulting in the nearside front being raised out of position compared to the Corgi issues. These models are screwed together, so the problem is fairly easy to correct. |
Atlas Editions 7163 114 (2) (3) |
London Transport/Leyland RTW | 201?/?? | 1. This 1/72nd scale model was issued in the European Bus Collection (route 25) has red painted mudgaurds instead of black on the rear & front off-side. 2. Legal address is incorretly applied & the operator name lacks any spacing. 3. The registration KLB 915 & fleet number RTW 75 don't match. KLB 915 was carried by RTW185, while RTW75 was registered KGK 575. |
Sunstar 2907 (2) (3) (4) | LT Shillibeer/Routemaster RM | 2006/03 | 1. Incorrect registration CUV 191 applied - should be CUV 191C. Fleet numbers incorrectly have ROUTEMASTER printed above them. 2. The garage code & running numbers are of the older stencil type, by 1979 the garage codes would have been painted on in white. The running numbers show 2G instead of 26 and would more likely have been black on yellow background. 3. The seating capacity should be present over three lines below the used ticket box on the platform bulkhead, it & the used ticket text should also be white not black. 4. The side adverts are too tall and vertically they should sit centrally on the between decks panel, the two rosettes either side should also be positioned centrally. |
Sunstar 2941 (2) (3) (4) (5) | Arriva London/Routemaster RM | 2019/09 | 1. Fleet number missing on nearside bonnet & incorrect London Transport Executive legal address, should be for Arriva London (South) 2. Yellow skirt lining should continue across rear panels & there should be an Arriva Heritage Fleet advert below the rear window. 3. Wrong style of radiator grille fitted with number plate hanging below. Real vehicle has earlier design with plate incorporated into grille surround. 4. Offside fleet number should be centered horizontally on panel. 5. Nearside Arriva fleet name positioned too far forward. The logo should be aligned with the start of the yellow lining below. |
Sunstar 2942 (2) (3) | Queen's Golden Jubilee/Routemaster RM | 2019/09 | This model has numerous errors due to poor research & has ended up with a split identity. 1. Fleet number & registration don't match. RM6 should be VLT 6, while 650 DYE is from RM1650/SRM3. 2a. Arriva fleet names & RM 6 match but that vehicle had a white central band & carried adverts for Jubilee Pl. The livery & route are correct for RM1650, however that also had Jubilee Pl. adverts & was operated by First London. 2b.The legal lettering refers to London Transport Executive, it should be either First London or Arriva London 2c. The garage code BN for Brixton is correct for RM6, however route 23 was operated by First from Westbourne Park (X). 3. Fleet number is missing on offside. During 2004/5 RM6 acquired the Surf adverts depicted however by this time the purple golden jubilee logos had been removed and a larger Arriva fleet name applied. It also still retained the white between deck band and the retro-style brake cooling grilles below the headlights. |
Oxford Diecast 43WFL001 |
Southdown/ Weymann Fanfare Leyland Coach | 2019/10 | This Leyland version of the model has an AEC badge printed on the centre of the steering wheel. |
EFE E16610Z (Real bus) | East London/Leyland National Mark I | 2019/08 | Perceived Errors - This model is based on the now preserved vehicle and although authentic to that, it unfortunately reproduces a couple of mistakes found on the preserved version of the bus. 1. Wrong West Ham Garage code. Route D5 was operated by the former West Ham trolleybus depot (WH) and not the newer Upton Park Garage (U). 2. Fare notice. LS35 only operated the D5 until 1992, it was then repainted in Westlink livery & transferred to the Stanwell Buses division of London Buses. The fares start notice carries the date 8th January 1995. |
Oxford Diecast 76BI004 (1) (2) |
Southdown/Beadle Integral Coach | 2018/12 | (1) Due to a factory error this model was issued with the incorrect interior seating component for the forward entrance version of the model. This meant a seat blocked the central passenger entrance door. (2) Oxford Diecast subquently offered a free replacement seating component to owners of the model. |
Hatchette Partworks Bus Model 3 (1) (2) |
London Transport/AEC Regent RT | 201?/?? | (1) The typeface used for the route number on the destination displays is incorrect. (2) The layout of the rear upper destination display is incorrect, the route number should be smaller & positioned above the intermediate points. |
Hatchette Partworks Bus Model 64 (1) (2) |
London Country/AEC Regent RT | 201?/?? |
(1) The fleet number RT4742 does not match the registration number OLD 564. The correct matches are either RT4742 & OLD 528 or OLD 564 & RT4777. The typeface used for the registration is also incorrect with a non-standard style of 4 included. (2) The rear adverts date from the 1940/50's period whereas the London Country livery dates from the early 1970s. The fleet names are also incorrect in terms of both the size & typeface. |
IXO BUS018 (1) (2) |
London Transport/AEC Regent RT | 2019/06 | This 1/43rd scale model has a number of issues, the main one being London Transport never operated any open top RT class vehicles in public service. The RT class was withdrawn from service in 1979 well before the Original London Transport Sightseeing Tour branding depicted on the this model was used. (1) The model appears to be a knock off of the Sunstar 1/24th scale Routemaster model 2910 which depicted RM94 (VLT94) as used on the sightseeing tour during the early 1990's. Sadly the RM registration applied VLT 93, doesn't even match the incorrect fleet number RM94 chosen by Ixo (2) The right corner adverts on both the front & rear list one of the locations served as "Charmarssty" this I'm guessing should have read "Haymarket". Finally the sightseeing vehicles didn't have a front route blind box & never displayed the route number 11. |
OOC OM41408 | Samuel Ledgard/AEC Regent V Roe | 2007/08 | All references to Samuel Ledgard in the description on model certificate have misspelling Ledguard. |
CMNL UKBUS0032 | Stagecoach Gold/Enviro 400 Scania | 2011/08 | Box description incorrectly states the principal route between Cheltenham & Gloucester in numbered 49. It should be 94 as correctly depicted on the model. |
Oxford Diecast NSET02 | London Transport/AEC Regent RT Bus | 2014/06 | The red Central Area London Transport RT Class model included in this set should have black mudguards not red. The model is also incorrectly fitted with a Leyland RTL type radiator. |
Oxford Diecast NSET01 | London Transport/Bus Set | 2011/01 | Some of the sets have the models attached to plinths bearing the legand "The Land Rover Collection" instead of "The London Bus Collection". |
Atlas Editions 4642 109 (2) |
Samuel Ledgards/Plaxton Panorama Coach | 2016/06 | 1. This Corgi based model has been incorrectly fitted with the smaller diameter wheels & hubs that are designed for use with the Bedford VAL version of this model. 2. The model is also fitted with the Bedford VAL interior seating with the raised engine housing beside the driver. The model depicts AUM414C a Leyland Leopard which had an underfloor engine and didn't have this housing. |
EFE 16308 | Lincolnshire/Bristol LS | 1994/09 | Box labels are printed with model number 16306 which has been crudley altered by EFE to make it look like 16308. The model is often now referred to as 16306 as a result. |
Corgi 35009 (2) | Blackpool /Routemaster | 2000/01 | Side between decks route diagrams show Tolbot Sq instead of Talbot Sq and Squire Gate instead of Squires Gate |

OOC 40901 | Chesterfield Corporation/ Leyland PD2 MCW Orion |

OOC OM40904 | Exeter/Leyland PD2 Orion | 2005/09 | Due to a factory error this model was issued in an unlabelled plain white box instead of normal OOC card outer packaging. |
Oxford Diecast NRT006 | London Transport/AEC Regent RT Bus | 2012/06 | The red Central Area London Transport RT Class vehicles had black front mudguards not red, on this model only the side edges have been painted black. |

Oxford Diecast 76WFA005 | Greenslades' Tours/Weymann Fanfare Coach | 2017/07 | Weyman instead of Weymann on rear badge. |
Oxford Diecast 76WFA006 (2) | Birch Bros/Weymann Fanfare Coach | 2017/06 | 1. Weyman instead of Weymann on rear badge. 2. Fuel Filler cap on off-side is incorrectly labeled with "Water" |

EFE 1010x Blank? (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) |
Blank Red/AEC RT Bus | Unknown | 1-6. This model was acquired from eBay, and there are signs that indicate the fleet numbers have been erased, however there are no signs it ever had fleet names, advertisements or destination blinds. Was this possibly a blank used for some of the commissioned EFE RT models produced back in the early 1990's? |
Britbus R906 (2) | First Capital/Volvo Olympian Alexander | 2006/04 | 1/2. "Homsey Road" & "Aldwich" instead of Hornsey Road & Aldwych shown on front & rear destination blinds. |
OOC OM41913A/B (2) | Southdown/Queen Mary Leyland PD3 | 2016/12 | 1. "Britian" instead of Britain on off-side staircase panel. 2. Near side front windscreen wiper missing. |
OOC OM46509A/B (2) | First Green Line/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 | 2016/11 | 1/2. "bought" instead of brought to you by First on both rear nearside & front off-side. |
OOC OM46510A/B (2) | The Witch Way/Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 | 2016/11 | 1. Legal lettering incorrectly shows Lancashire United Ltd, it should be Burnley & Pendle Travel Ltd. The vehicle weight is also incorrectly stated as 13041KG it should be 11740KG. These decals appears to have been copied from the earlier Witch Way Gemini mark I OOC model. |
CMNL UKBUS5102 | Stagecoach East London/ Mercedes Citaro Bendibus |
2005/11 | The wording for central door emergency control switch is printed upside down. |
Atlas Editions 4642 116 (2) (3) |
Trans Peak/Volvo Plaxton Excalibur | 2016/12 | 1. The model is based on R62 RAU, a Volvo B10M-62 with Plaxton Premiere body, as per the description on the certificate & model plinth. The model however uses the Corgi OOC Plaxton Excalibur tooling rather than Premiere version. 2. The dark green on the lower side & rear panels should also extend across the front of the model. 3. Wrong photograph & description over the rear wheel arches for a point on the route. On the real R62 RAU this related to "Derby" whereas on the model it is "Heights of Abraham". |
Britbus R706 (2) | Dublin Bus/Volvo Olympian | 2008/07 | Model Variation: Some models exist with a single peice rear engine cover and without the black masking on the bottom of the lower deck side windows. |

Britbus ES-12 | Nottingham City Transport (GO2)/Scania East Lancs Omnidekka | 2010/11 | Registration & fleet number mismatch. Vehicle 987 was registered YT10 UWR. YT10 UWL, as carried on the model, belongs to sister vehicle 982. |
EFE 263xx (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) |
Southdown Blank/Guy Arab II Utility | Unknown | This EFE model obtain from the company carries what appears to be Southdown colours. The paint has a satin finish and it appears to have been some sort a trial model. All the EFE Southdown Guy Arab models released to date have had dark green roofs. |
EFE 15628 (2) (3) (4) (5) |
London Transport/AEC RM Routemaster | Unknown | This EFE model obtain from the company appears to be a modified version of gift set issue 15628. The original route & registration are still present on the rear, but the flake grey central band has been re-painted cream. The model carries new registration WLT 387 on the front. A mark not recorded on any model issued by EFE to date. The single front "HERE" advert was used on the green London Transport RML issued as model 25507 in 1999. |
EFE 34114 (2) | London Transport/AEC RT Bus | 2016/06 | 1. The bus featured, RT4276 was painted red from new until an overhual in January 1964. Route 93 Express only operated for three months between late October 1955 & early January 1956. It was a central area red route operated by Sutton Garage (A). The model should be red not green! 2. Legal address shows London Transport Board which didn't come into existance until 1963. As this is a 1955 vehicle it should have London Transport Executive legals. |
Oxford Diecast 76WFA003 | Neath & Cardiff/Weymann Fanfare Coach | 2016/04 | "ERGENCY DOOR" instead of EMERGENCY DOOR on off-side exit door. |
Britbus ES-14 | Wilts & Dorset/Scania East Lancs Omnidekka | 2016/05 | "EMERGEENCY DOOR CONTROL" instead of EMERGENCY. |
Britbus ES-15 | Wilts & Dorset/Scania East Lancs Omnidekka | 2016/05 | "EMERGEENCY DOOR CONTROL" instead of EMERGENCY. |
EFE 28604/28604A | GM Buses City Central/GM Standard Atlantean | 2003/12 | It has been suggested that normally the "City Central" branding was only applied to the nearside of vehicles. |
EFE 28609 (2) | GM Buses Rochdale/GM Standard Atlantean | 2016/05 | 1. The white lining above the skirt on the off-side should continue up to the rear wheel arch, as per the nearside of model. 2. It has been suggested that normally the "Rochdale" branding was only applied to the nearside of vehicles. |
Oxford Diecast 76WFA004 | Barton/Weymann Fanfare Coach | 2016/04 | Rear body builders badge shows Weyman instead of Weymann. |
CMNL UKBUS2006 (2 (3) | Bright & Hove/Plaxton President | 2004/02 | 1. Incorrectly showing Brightom in main fleetnames 2. AGGESS instead of ACCESS on entrance door 3. Printing on rear off-side engine flap is upside down |

Corgi OOC OM41606F/S | Leeds Corporation/Crossley DD42 | 2010/10 | This pair of Collector Club models both carry front fleet number 727. Leeds only had a single DD42 vehicle which was originally numbered 701 and then renumbered 27. There doesn't appear to be any record of the bus ever being numbered 727. |
Corgi OOC 42712 | Shearings/Van Hool Alizee | 1997/10 | Due to a factory error, this particular model is missing the orange overprinting of Shearings fleet name on the nearside only. |
EFE 24108 | Alder Valley NBC/Bedford TK Lorry | 2016/03 | Alder Valley used NBC red rather than green. There is little evidence this lorry was ever repainted green while owned by the operator. |
Oxford Diecast 76DR001 | Belle Vue Coaches/Duple Roadmaster Coach | 2016/03 | Bell Vue instead of Belle Vue in legal lettering. |
Graham Farish 379-591 | Eastern National/Bristol Lodekka FLF | 2013/10 | The packaging incorrectly describes the model as Northern instead of Eastern National. |
EFE 16004 | Devon General/Leyland PD2 | 1994/12 | The model carries incorrect fleet number DL604 instead of DL640. Real bus was registered MTT 640. |
OOC 97096 (Part of set) |
MacBraynes/AEC BET Bus | 1995/12 | Compromise: The real LUS524E has five side windows and not six. The vehicles also has twin headlights & folding type entrance doors. |
OOC 42601 | MacBraynes/Bedford OB Coach | 1996/12 | Compromise: The vehicle depicted, DYS 933 was actually fitted with a Duple bus body which differed in design to the Vista coach body used on the model. |
EFE 16230 (2) | Hants & Dorset/Bristol LS Coach | 2015/11 | 1. The box labels incorrectly show the model number 16320 instead of 16230. To confuse matters 16320 was used for an earlier Hants & Dorset model, a Bristol LS bus issued in 2000. 2. There is also a suggestion that the livery depicted on this model was never actually applied to the vehicle. The PSV Circle fleet history indicates this vehicle was acquired from Southern Vectis in January 1968 and then placed in store still carrying it's former owners livery & fleet names. The vehicle was then converted to OMO configuration & repainted in Hants & Dorset dual purpose green & cream livery before entering service in June 1968. There are no records of it being used in service before the conversion work and a photograph taken in March 1968 shows it in store at Shirley Road works still carrying the original Southern Vectis fleet names. |
EFE 30603 | East Yorkshire/AEC Renown | 2006/04 | Skirlough instead of Skirlaugh on front intermediate destination blind. |
EFE 10135 | Dundee Corporation/AEC RT Bus | 2015/06 | Compromise: All the 30 of the former London Transport RT buses operated by Dundee Corporation had Cravens built bodies. Compared to other RT bodies these had an extra window bay (5 on the lower & 7 on the upper deck). The vehicles also had roofbox bodies and two piece front & rear destination displays. |
EFE 23320B | London Transport/AEC Regal IV RF | 2013/01 | The Correct registration for RF315 should be MLL 952 rather than MLL 852, the later was actually used on RT3542. |

Cornish Fairways/DMS | 2010/04 | 1) Fleet number & registration don't match, should either be 812 THM530M or 832 TGX848M. 2) Small Western National fleet names on sides of vehicle should be followed by small white double N symbols as per the front and rear examples. 3) TGX848M had a Park Royal body whereas the model depicts the MCW body. The top of emergency rear exit door shouldn't therefore extend in to the white central band. 4) The rear fleet name should be above the central bonnet panel not inside it. It should also have a small One Man Operated Bus sign below it. 5) The fleet number plate should be positioned on the bottom left corner of the bonnet. 6) These vehicles had the earlier smaller more rounded style of rear light clusters (casting limitation) with a large round rear reversing light below the off-side cluster. 7) An illuminated Pay As You Enter sign should be present below the first nearside window & the doors should be four leaf rather than two. 8) Interior trim was blue rather than tan. |

(2) The flip flap sign below the windscreen has "PAY CONDUCTOR" wording & is correctly positioned for that option, however the sign is in the black on yellow colours that were used for the pay driver side of the sign. As route 184 was an OPO only route it should be positioned higher & bear the "PAY DRIVER" wording. If the sign had been set incorrectly to the pay conductor position on the actual bus depicted it would had white text on a dark blue background. |

EFE 28824 (2) (3) |
London Transport/Leyland Titan | 2015/04 | 1. The model should have a round L type rather than Leyland scroll badge on the front grille and a smaller Leyland Titan badges below. 2. When T shapes adverts were applied to the off-side the roundel would have been re-positioned below first passenger window behind the staircase panel and not placed above the driver's side window. 3. Advert mismatch: The T shape off-side Surf advert makes reference to Albert Square from the BBC soap opera Eastenders. This programme was first broadcast in February 1985, however the near side "Fare Deal", advertisement, which should have the 25p printed in red & not black, dates from about 1981. It's actually doubtful that T shape adverts were being applied to this class of vehicles in 1981. Note: The model lacks a yellow "Pay as you enter sign" below the windscreen, however photographic evidence does exist which confirms this is actually correct for this particular vehicle. |

Tower Transit/AEC Routemaster RM | 2014/12 | 1. The Tower Transit company logos are incorrectly positioned & too large. They should be positioned below the central band over the first passenger window on each side. 2. The intermediate destination blind has Piccadilly Circus as the first point whereas the real blinds show Pall Mall. 3. The upper rear blind contains both the route number & intermediate destination points. The Heritage Routemasters only used this blind to show the route number. 4. The Heritage Routemasters were fitted advertisement frames, the side advertisements were much longer than those applied to the model and the off-side one should be L shaped and extend down over the staircase paneling. Its very doubtful that RM1204 ever carried the "Visit Australia" adverts which seem to reflect the company's Australian roots. It's not clear whether these are actual errors or just compromises requested by Tower Transit who commissioned this model as a Christmas gift for their staff. |

It has also had the original Northern General Legal lettering partly removed and a new white London Transport version added in it's place. Is this a test model for another Beatties special or just a model used by EFE to set up the tampo printing equipment for the other pair of models. Note how the near side Beatties advert has the pink background intended for smaller Toys & Games wording showing through the larger Beatties logo. |
