THE EFE CATALOGUES & RELEASE SHEETS EFE's first catalogue was issued in 1989 and contained details of the earliest standard release RT & AEC Mammoth Major lorries. At least one other catalogue was issued in the Spring of 1990 and it was around this time that EFE also started placing regular advertisements in various model magazines which gave details of their forthcoming new model releases. Towards the end of 1990 advertisements appeared showing all the standard EFE models issued to date, a catalogue containing the same material was also issued in early 1991. The advertisements and catalogues continued into 1992, but it was during 1993 that EFE started to produce the actual release sheets and distribute them to model retailers. These started off as bi-monthly issues but from June 1994 model output had increased to such an extent that they became monthly. The annual catalogues that listed all the model issued to date were again issued in both 1993 & 1994. No catalogues are believed to have been issued during 1995, but in 1996 EFE produced two which focused on forthcoming models rather than previous issues, these are believed to have been the last catalogues issued relating to the standard range models. Two four page booklets were however issued in 1995 & 1996 focusing on "New Model Tooling" & the "War Time Buses" range of models. The release sheets thus became the preferred method of announcing the new models and these continued to be issued on a monthly basis between 1995 & 2000. Between 2001 & 2003 the number of issues dropped slightly with a few sheets covering two months instead of one. The sheets lost their monthly association in 2004 and from then on were simply given an issue number, this system survives to the present day and between 9 & 12 sheets are now issued per year depending on the number of models issued. The rear of the release sheets has been used for various purposes, the most common of which was the Fleet Focus feature, these listed all the EFE model produced to date depicting a particular operator. Subscriber models have also featured on the rear along with updates on the progress of new tooling and details of specific products such as 1:24 buses & tube trains. The release sheets are also sent out to members of the EFE Subscription Service along with a newsletter from Frank Joyce, this has now become the main distribution method following the demise of so many high street model shops. The main aim of this section is to catalogue the actual release sheets and show the new models as they were announced, it also allows you to view the descriptions provided by EFE for each model. From 2009 I've also included scans of the rear of most of the sheets, if there is sufficant demand I may consider adding this feature to earlier years as well. Gilbow Holdings entered administration in October 2016 & the EFE model brand was acquired by Bachmann Europe PLC later that month. No further release sheets or EFE catalogues have been published since the acquisition. Finally do you know of any other catalogues or release sheets? If you do any details would be very much appreciated. |
